Taking responsibility for a more sustainable future

Søndervig Camping wants to contribute to a greener world by taking responsibility for the resources we use and by reducing our consumption. In 2024, our climate journey truly began. An exciting journey with the goal of becoming a certified Green Camping site.

Since the spring of 2024, you have been able to charge your car at Søndervig Camping. So, if you’re among those who have already invested in a hybrid or electric car, you can be assured that you have access to charging at the campsite.

What we want to do more of…

Encourage more bio waste

SUPPORT RECYCLING MORE EXTENSIVELY

Søndervig Camping is looking into ways to get more bio-waste.
We are campers ourselves and know that the space can be tight in caravans and motorhomes. Therefore, we are working on solutions to make it easier to manage bio-waste.

If you have good ideas, feel free to share them with us!
When bio-waste is sorted, it can be converted into biogas, which can be used for heating, electricity, and fuel for vehicles. It’s an efficient way to reduce waste and contribute to producing sustainable energy.

We want our guests to be able to share and recycle items they no longer need. This could be anything from the crime novel you read on vacation, a ball game, or unused table tennis paddles. Therefore, we are working on ways to create a space for our guests to share with each other.

You are probably familiar with “book exchange” initiatives around the country.
We are considering building a “sharing bench,” a “swap bench,” or a shared area on the campsite where you can leave things that other guests can benefit from. A bench full of great stories and useful finds!

Do you have any good advice on how we can do more?

We want our guests and partners to help strengthen our environmental initiatives.
Do you have suggestions for activities we can do on-site or events we can participate in, in West Jutland or our local area? We strive to offer sustainable solutions and experiences that include environmental considerations. We are at the beginning of our environmental journey and would love to hear your feedback and ideas for fun initiatives. It can be anything from product improvements to joint activities like beach cleaning or nature bingo.

More nature

We have significantly changed our approach to maintaining the campsite. Previously, everything around the fence and similar areas was trimmed, but now we choose a more nature-friendly approach. We no longer trim down to the tee, but instead, we learn to let nature inspire us in how we maintain the site.

This means that our German guests no longer look at us disapprovingly if we use a backpack sprayer, as we no longer use it routinely and only trim where necessary. This is part of our commitment to meeting environmental standards and also significantly reduces our fuel consumption.

At Søndervig Camping, we do not have garden waste. We mow the grass, but we do not collect it. This naturally reduces our waste, but it also has several benefits for nature.

When grass clippings are left on the lawn, they decompose naturally and provide nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium to the soil. The grass acts as a natural fertilizer, improving soil fertility without the need for synthetic fertilizers and creating a microhabitat for insects and small animals. When we trim hedges, the branch waste is collected and shredded.
